TCM to Present Three Research Papers at the World’s Leading CCUS Conference
Technology Centre Mongstad (TCM) will present three scientific papers at GHGT-18, the world’s leading conference on carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS), taking place in Perth, Australia, 25–29 October 2026.
Held biennially, GHGT typically brings together more than 1,000 researchers, industry experts, technology developers and policymakers to share advances in carbon capture and storage technologies. The conference is widely regarded as the premier international forum for CCUS research and innovation.
All three TCM papers have been accepted for oral presentation, underscoring the role of TCM as a leading open-access test centre for carbon capture technologies.
“This recognition reflects TCM’s role in delivering high-quality experimental data that supports the advancement of carbon capture technologies toward industrial deployment,” says Matthew Campbell, Technology Manager at TCM.

Results from the AURORA Test Campaign
Two of the papers are based on results from the AURORA test campaign conducted at TCM in 2025. The campaign was part of the European AURORA project, funded through the EU’s Horizon Europe programme and concluded in 2026.
The project brought together leading industrial and research partners across Europe to develop and qualify solvent-based carbon capture technology for commercial deployment. TCM played a central role by delivering large-scale testing and operational data from its industrial CO2 capture facilities.
The first paper, Performance of CESAR1 Solvent Under Diverse Industrial Conditions: Insights from the AURORA Test Campaign at TCM, presents performance data for CESAR1 solvent under a range of industrial operating conditions.
The second paper, Optimizing Emissions Dynamics in Amine-Based Carbon Capture using CESAR1 Solvent: Co-benefits, Control Strategies and Multi-Instrument Measurements, focuses on emission behaviour and strategies for reducing emissions while maintaining capture performance.
“These results demonstrate how TCM contributes to European research initiatives by providing independent, high-quality test data under realistic industrial conditions,” says Campbell.

CO2 Product Quality from the Owners Campaign
The third paper, Evolution of CO2 Product Quality in Post-Combustion Carbon Capture with the CESAR1 Solvent, is based on findings from TCM’s Owners Campaign conducted in 2025.
The study examines how flue gas composition and operating conditions influence CO2 product quality, an important factor for transport, storage and utilisation across the CCS value chain.
“The ability to test technologies under real industrial conditions is a key strength of TCM,” says Campbell. “These campaigns help reduce uncertainty and support the development of more robust and cost-efficient carbon capture solutions.”
Presenting to a Global CCUS Audience
All three papers will be presented by Ahmad Wakaa, Onsite Testing Manager & Senior CO2 Capture Technologist at TCM.
The papers will be made publicly available after presentation at GHGT-18.
Through its participation, TCM continues to strengthen its role as a leading centre for applied carbon capture research and technology development, contributing to the global effort to reduce industrial CO2 emissions.
